A 33- year- old woman in Ogun, Olaide Adekunle, has told the police that she sold her 18 months old baby for N600,000 to pay back a loan she took from a micro finance bank.
Olaide was arrested following a report by her husband to the police by her husband, one Nureni Rasaq, that his wife left home to Lagos on the 15th of March 2023 with their baby girl by name Moridiat Rasaq, but returned home without the baby.
Razaq told the police that she was also not forthcoming or give any reasonable account of whereabouts of the baby girl.
This led to her arrest by police detectives attached to the Sango division, based on the order of the Dvisional Police Officer, CSP Dahiru Saleh.
Ogun Command spokesperson SP Abimbola Oyeyemi who announced this in a statement added that upon interrogation, Olamide confessed that she has sold the baby to someone in Lagos at the price of six hundred thousand naira (#600,000).
She also told the police interrogators that she borrowed money from a microfinance bank, and when she was unable to pay back the money, the bank agents started dragging her and threatening to deal decisively with her.
She added that she ran to Lagos and started hawking sachet water to be able to make money to pay back the loan.
But Olamide said while she was hawking, she met a man who introduced her to the woman that eventually bought her child in Lagos.
Meanwhile the acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Babakura Muhammed, has directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation and possible recovery of the baby. CONTINUE READING………………………………………
