Oyo gets new female Chief Judge, Yerima

THE Oyo Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Iyabo Yerima as the substantive Chief Judge of the state.

Justice Yerima was sworn in on January 16, 2023 by Governor Seyi Makinde as acting CJ following the retirement of Justice Munta Ladipo Abimbola.

The confirmation at the plenary came following the recommendation of the House Committee on Public Petitions and Judiciary which found her confirmable.

The Assembly, which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Fadeyi confirmed her as many lawmakers extolled her virtues and pedigree.

Speaking, the newly-confirmed CJ vowed to restore the glory of Oyo State Judiciary and make it the pride of the West and Africa in general.

She also said there would be a paradigm shift in the dispensation of justice in the state.

The CJ said ”I have passion, dreams and hope for a new judiciary in Oyo State.

“There will be a new Oyo State Judiciary in terms of digitalization, infrastructure, justice delivery and so many other things.

“I will restore the glory of Oyo State Judiciary as the pride of the West and Africa as it is used to be in the 60s”.
