Osogbo community decries poor road, potholes, seeks govt intervention – report

THE importance of good road network to the development of any community cannot be overemphasized, must have been the moving factor for the calls on Osun State Government under Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke by the entire residents of Osogbo, Osun state capital, for the immediate fixing of the dilapidated roads.

This appeal was made in the Special report conducted by Voice Air Media (VAM News), Bright Gbotemi in the town recently, where eminent personalities gathered to take stock of the development in the State Capital.

One part of Osun State, whose voice is strident in the call for government’s urgent attention, is in Osogbo, where communities have for long been burdened with many dilapidated roads.

National Productivity Centre (Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment) Osun State Office, NUJ Press Centre Road, Technical College along Iwo-Ibadan road axis, Dada Estate road, Capital Hotel area, Ogo-Oluwa road, Orisunmbare road, Kola Balogun axis, Sabo road, and others where the reporter covered are the major roads begging for rehabilitation. The road that leads to Okefia and Osun House Assembly and links to Government Office.

Most traders who display their wares around the area, said government has not been concerned about the State of the roads. Once the road is left to worsen again.

An Engineer, David Johnson, said the condition of the road has not improved, it has always been marred with potholes.

A commercial motorcycle operator, Mr. Ismalia Ariyo, also lamented about the bad road, which according to him is having an adverse effect on residents.

“The deteriorating state of the roads have made us to hike our fare but some people will insist on not paying, yet most of what we earn is used to repair and maintain our machines.”

A resident, Babalola Raphael, narrated how the potholes in different parts of the city damaged his vehicle, which culminated in draining his finances.

“It is terrible. my tyres are bad, and my car is always in a mess because of terrible roads. When I drive, I always drive by the edge, highly disturbed,” he said.

Mini bus popularly known as ‘Korope’ driver on his own said, “my savings goes to the mechanic to repair what has been damaged by potholes on the roads.”

Another resident of Ogo-Oluwa area, Ololade Adetunji, called on state government to fix these roads for conducive environment.

Government Reaction

“The fixing of the portholes across the State capital, Osogbo have been approved by the State Government, and the work has started from Abeere axis Osogbo and it will touch every part of the communities,” Seyi Adeniyi, Special Adviser On media to Governor Ademola Adeleke said.
