The 19-year-old Uwanu Emmanuel, who was alleged to have, along with others, assaulted two police officers, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Emmanuel, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of assault.
The police prosecutor, Insp Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence at 8.30 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
Oriyomi alleged that the defendants assaulted one Insp Adepoju Adewunmi and injured him.
“The defendant and one other at large also assaulted one Sgt. Duduyegbe Olatunbosun, while performing his lawful duty,” he said.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 186 and 187(a) of the Criminal Laws of EKiti State 2021.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted the defendant bail of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
