NigeriaElections2023: Osun state records impressive turnout

THE 2023 general elections in Osun state witnessed impressive turnout as eligible electorates troop out in large numbers to exercise their civic rights.

At Unit 20, Ward 4, Ogoluwa, in osogbo Local government, electorates gathered at the polling unit as early as 7:30am.

Also at Ward 2 Unit 9, Edunabon in Ife North local government area of Osun state, hundreds of voters gathered as early as 6am.

At the polling Unit, a 95-year-old woman simply identified as Rebecca Amusan was among the electorates who came to cast her vote.

The aged woman said she voted because she quest for Nigerian to be better.

At Ogbagba Ward 3, unit 1, OlaOluwa Local government, a chieftain of PDP Alhaji Fatai Akinbade said the election was interesting as people come out freely to exercise their civic rights without inducement.

His words, “honestly this particular election has given us the hope that Nigeria will work again.”

At Ilesa West, Ward 10, unit 13, Babatunde Ayeni, House of Representative candidate of the APC expressed satisfaction on the process, saying he will win the election.

“The PDP will attack you and be the one to raise alarm. They attacked some of our leaders and the police arrested four of them.

“It is not about vote buying, the policy affected many things. Some of the voters cannot come out. They don’t have money to move out. If you struggle for two days to get N2,000, you will want to keep it to feed your family.

“The policy has its own advantages but the disadvantages are more. So, the policy is good but it is not at the right time.

Speaking with our correspondent, Bamidele Salam, member, House of Representatives, representing Ede North and Ede South, Egbedore and Ejigbo, lamented over some BVAS machine used, saying some doesn’t work.

The Oluwo of Iwo Kingdom’ Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi has applauded the voting exercises going on in all parts of the state saying the turn out has been impressive and encouraging despite challenges.

The monarch who gave overview assement of the exercise said so far the the report at his disposal shown that the exercise has been very peaceful and that the turn out is commendable

The royal father who commended the INEC and security agencies for the peaceful conduct hinted that despite all odds especially Naira Swap policy and other hardships experienced by Nigerians ,many came out to exercise their civic rights.

“Nigerian are resilience people ,they all came out in their large number to cast their votes. Its a good development.

While encouraging the electorates, and the winner of the elections to be magnanimous in victory and celebration disclosed that all that is important is for unity .

His words “I enjoined whoever that will win to be magnanimous in victory and also called on the electorates to celebrate moderately saying unity of Nigeria is sacrosanct. Any one who emerges at end of the exercise should reach out to others and move the country forward.

Akanbi, however lauded the electorates for comporting themselves orderly since the beginning of the voting exercise urging to remain so after declaration of the results.
