Bello Musa Kofarmata, a former forward with the Kano Pillars, has died.
After a brief illness, Kofarmata, another former Nigerian international, passed away late on Tuesday in his birthplace of Kano.
He was 34.
In Kofarmata, Kano State, the deceased will be buried later today (Wednesday) in accordance with Islamic customs.
Kofarmata began playing football in 2007 with Kano’s Buffalo F.C. He joined Kano Pillars in the same year. He left Kano Pillars in 2010 to join Heartland FC of Owerri, then switched to Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri in 2012. He then returned to Kano Pillars.
After several trials with the squad, he signed a contract with IK Start of Norway. He won the Nigerian Premier League in 2007–08 with Kano Pillars, and his 11 goals made him the league’s leading scorer.
Kofarmata participated in one friendly match while on trial with Austria’s LASK in August 2008. At the start of the 2008 season, the forward visited Pillars after spending time in Europe.
In January 2010, he signed on with Heartland for a sum of N5 million. He left Heartland after 2.5 years and signed with Kano Pillars, his longtime team.
The late Kofarmata travelled to Canada in 2007 with the Nigerian team for the FIFA U20 World Cup. In the Super Eagles’ 5-2 friendly victory against the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Abuja in March 2010, he made his team debut as a replacement.
