Enugu: Many passengers burnt to death as bus catches fire

Many passengers were burnt to death in a fatal accident along Enugu-Port-Harcourt Road in the Enugu metropolis.

 

The accident was said to have occurred on Sunday night around Four-Corners near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH) Ituku-Ozalla.

 

The 14-seater said to be travelling from Imo State to Adamawa State reportedly ran into a truck before bursting into flames.

 

According to SaharaReporters, eyewitnesses claimed that all the passengers except one were burnt beyond recognition.

 

The Enugu State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Joseph Toby, who confirmed the incident to SaharaReporters on the telephone said, “My boys are still at the accident scene. It was a commercial vehicle that was involved in the crash that was involved in fire. So my people are still there, as I am telling you now we don’t know the exact number of persons that were involved and I don’t want to start giving wrong information.

“But as soon as details are gathered, we will post it online. We don’t know the number of persons that were involved. It happened yesterday night. Throughout the night we were there with the fire service to make sure we put out the fire but because of the sit-at-home, we found it difficult to go there this morning. But eventually, I have taken my boys and we are there now. Any number you see is just speculation because we have to be very sure of what we give to the public.”
