Ten Hag to Ronaldo: I’m the manager, don’t distract me

VOICE AIR MEDIA

Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has made it clear he has authority to take decisions that affect the team.

The Dutchman has dropped Cristiano Ronaldo from his squad to face Chelsea this weekend, after the 37-year-old refused to come on against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

Ronaldo then left his seat and disappeared down the tunnel, leaving Old Trafford before full time.

Ten Hag used his Friday press conference to send a warning to the rest of the squad.

He said: “I am the manager, I am responsible for the culture here and I have to set standards and values and I have to control them. In the team, we have values and standards and I have to control that.

“Football is a team sport and you have to fulfil certain standards. And I have to control it.

“I think that [not being distracted] is part when you play in top football. There is noise, rumours, you’ve got to focus.”
