Fleeing Nigeria under ‘japa’ cover misguided move: Elizade Varsity VC

Prof. Okukayode Amund, vice chancellor of Elizade University, has called the trend of some Nigerians fleeing the nation in large numbers a misguided action.

According to Prof. Amund, using the “Japa” syndrome as a justification to travel abroad is the same as avoiding issues that will still exist when they return home.

This was stated at a press conference to announce the institution’s combined 6th and 7th convocation ceremonies by the vice-chancellor of the institution.

While stressing that Nigerians must endeavour to make their country better, he said, “There is nothing that is over there that we cannot achieve here. Where they are going is the same environment as we have here.”

“It is because people are not content with what they have, and that is the main driver of going abroad. When they go there, they go to do menial jobs, so those who are doing it are misguided.”

Prof. Amund revealed that 489 students will graduate from the university in total, while outlining the convocation ceremonies for the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions.

According to him, of the graduating students, 42 graduated with First Class, 205 graduated with Second Class (Upper), 199 graduated with Second Class (Lower), and 39 graduated with Third Class.
