ASUSS: 10 teachers killed, 50 others kidnapped in Kaduna 

The Kaduna State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) has revealed that bandits have killed about ten teachers and kidnapped about 50 others in the state.

 

Ishaya Dauda, Chairman of the ASUSS Kaduna State Chapter, who made the revelation, advised Governor Nasir El-Rufai to use all available means to ensure the release of all teachers and other victims still held captive in various camps across the state.

 

He told reporters in Kaduna on Wednesday that “more than 10 secondary school teachers were killed and over 50 others abducted from January to date in Kaduna, and the abducted teachers are still in captivity” as part of activities to commemorate the 2022 World Teachers’ Day with the theme, “The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers.”

According to him, the union is fully aware of the insecurity that is threatening the corporate existence of Kaduna State citizens, especially in the schools, urging the State government to take proactive actions towards bringing the menace to an end.

 

The union stated that it is equally aware of efforts being made by the State government towards the recruitment of Kaduna State vigilante service to secure the schools against the incessant attacks by terrorists.

 

He hailed the efforts of Governor El-Rufa’i in prompt payment of teachers’ salaries and enjoined the governor to ensure prompt payment of retirees’ benefits to ease the hardship of those that have retired from service.

 

He appealed toGgovernor El-Rufai to facilitate the promotion of their members which had been delayed since 2020, saying that ASUSS, like any other trade union, has enjoyed the goodwill of the Kaduna State Government.

He added that ASUSS was working in partnership with the office of the Head of Service, the Kaduna State Ministry of Education, the Kaduna Teachers’ Service Commission and other relevant stakeholders towards ensuring better welfare for its members in terms of recruitment, promotion and other welfare packages.
