Nigeria’s Super Falcons ended their Women’s African Cup of Nations, WAFCON, campaign on a low, losing 0-1 to Zambia in the third place play-off on Friday, Voiceairmedia reports.
First Half
The first kickedd off with the Zambian team taking control of most of the game.
It was a competitive encounter between both teams, but the Zambian team created more pressure on the Nigeria box.
The Super Falcons spent most of the first half defending against a rampaging Zambian side.
The Zambians were more aggressive, creating some series of chances but were unable to convert them.
The goal deadlock ended in the 28th minute with Katongo’s powerful shot. The shot hit the crossbar and was deflected into the goal by the Nigeria goalkeeper.
The Zambians improved over a less tactical Super Eagles side who created fewer chances.
Despite trailing by a goal to nil, the Super Eagles were overwhelmed and dominated by the Zambians till the end of the first half.
The first half ended 1-0sides both sides went into the break.
Second Half
The second began with the Super Falcons trying to push for an equaliser.
The Zambian defence was able to contain the threats of the Super Falcons while holding on to their lead.
The game was more balanced, with both sides trying to exploit loopholes in the opponents’ defence.
All efforts yielded no result from both sides as they continued to push on each other’s defence.
The match ended 1-0 in favour of the She-polopolo, who emerged as the 2022 WAFCON Bronze Medalist.
