THE Dancing Senator, Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke as he is popularly addressed is a politician in Nigeria who won the Osun July 16 Governorship under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PPD).

He served as the senator for the Osun-West senatorial district from 2017 to 2019. He is also an entrepreneur.

On May 13, 1960, he was born in Ede, Osun State, into the well-known Adeleke family.

His mother is an Igbo Christian named Nnena Esther Adeleke, while his father is a Muslim named Raji Ayoola Adeleke.

Dr. Adedeji Adeleke and late Isiaka Adeleke are his two elder brothers, his only sister is Dupe Adeleke-Sanni.

In Atlanta, Georgia, USA, from 1985 to 1989, he began his professional career at Quicksilver Courier Company.

He served as executive director of Guinness Nigeria Ltd from 1992 to 1999, then from 2001 to 2016 he served in the same capacity at Pacific Holding Limited, the business owned by his brother.

As vice president from 1990 to 1994, he also worked for a company that produced flavors and fragrances in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States.

In 2001, he began his political career alongside his late brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke. He ran for office in the Osun-West by-election in 2017 following the death of his brother, and he was successful.

On July 23, 2018, he ran for governor in a byelection, which he won as the PDP’s candidate in Osun State.

On September 22, 2018, he was declared the victor of the Osun State governorship election, but the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) ruled it to be inconclusive.

On September 27, 2018, the state had a new election, and Gboyega Oyetola was pronounced the winner on July 5, 2019, by the supreme court.

Ademola Adeleke, also known as the Dancing Senator, won the Osun 2022 governor’s race on his second attempt, unseating incumbent Oyetola.

Announcing the results at the INEC Collation Centre on Sunday, July 17, 2022, in Osogbo, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who was the returning officer, said that Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to defeat his closet rival, Gov. Gboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the APC, who scored 375,027 votes.
