The Man From Toronto (2022): Movie Review

Plot: Hitman meets dead man.

In a case of mistaken identity, the world’s deadliest assassin, known as the Man from Toronto, and a New York City screw-up are forced to team up after being confused for each other at an Airbnb.

Review: The Man From Toronto tells the story of the world’s deadliest assassin ) and New York’s biggest screw-up, Teddy, who are mistaken for one another at an Airbnb rental and find themselves forced into teaming up as they try to evade a group of assassins out to kill them.

The plot presents Hart as Teddy Jackson, a bumbling loser from New York City who plans a quiet weekend getaway for his wife at a resort in remote Virginia.

Prone mess things up as ever, Teddy ends up checking into the wrong cabin at the accommodation and is in for a bizarre encounter.

It does not take him long to realise he has been mistaken for a deadly hitman who goes by the name of The Man From Toronto.

No sooner is Teddy briefed about his ‘job’, the law strikes. The government agents of course realise Teddy isn’t the hitman they are after, but they have an idea.

They ask him to continue pretending to be The Man From Toronto in order to infiltrate and extract an important information.

The film follows a pretty predictable Hollywood action plot, and the laughs, while present, are few and far between. For his part, Harrelson seems to phone it in, and the interactions between him and a potential love interest (played by Kaley Cuoco) are charming but thinly scattered.

HITS: The element of humour was cleverly used, in dialogues as well as plot situations.

FLOPS: Cuoco is quite underused as a whole, and it’s odd to see her thrown into such an inconsequential role with so little stakes.
