South-East: IPOB reportedly bury explosive devices on different routes

The Nigerian Army said members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN) have buried explosive devices along different routes in the South-East.

Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu confirmed the development on Thursday in Enugu.

Nwachukwu said the devices were buried along troops’ patrol routes in the South-East.

He noted that some of the buried devices exploded and inflicted injuries to some of the IPOB members, while they were trying to escape attack from Nigerian troops.

He, however, called on people in the South-East to provide relevant information concerning the explosives buried in other areas.

He said:

“The dissidents inadvertently stepped on the IED which they had earlier planted along several routes in Orlu, Orsu Local Government Area, while they were attempting to evade troops’ onslaught against terrorists in the area.
