Osun, Ekiti 2022: Absence of judge stalls suit seeking to stop election

The absence of a judge on Tuesday stalled the hearing of a suit filed before a Federal High Court, sitting in Osogbo, by the leadership of Ilana Omo Oodua, asking the court to stop Ekiti and Osun States polls.

Although there was no official statement informing the parties in the suit as to why the court did not sit despite fixing a hearing of the matter.

But a source in the court, who preferred anonymity, said that the judge that was supposed to hear the matter did not come.

The leader of the group, Prof. Banji Akintoye, and 16 other prominent members had instituted the matter, against the validity of the 1999 Constitution.

Joined in the suit were the Attorney General of the Federation and the Independent National Electoral Commission as respondents.

Members of the group had stormed the court in large numbers only to be disappointed that the matter did not come up again.

The communication secretary, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Maxwell Adeleye, while speaking said there was no prior notice to the group that the matter would not come up.

“The matter has been fixed for the 24th of May. We didn’t get a prior notice that the matter would not come up today,” he concluded.
