Kofoworola Babajide Adewumi: Noteworthy Achievements of Osun Assembly Minority Leader Revealed

The lawmaker representing Ede North State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Kofoworola Babajide Adewunmi, has disclosed how he helped constituents in the area of education.

The minority in a media chat stated this, saying the only way to take on the challenges of today and unlock the opportunities of tomorrow is to invest in education.

Part of his statement reads, “I have always believed that the only way to take on the challenges of today and unlock the opportunities of tomorrow is to invest in education. This understanding guided my interventions as a lawmaker in the Osun State House of Assembly in the last three years.

“Aside from pressing for a greater commitment of resources to the training of students in our schools, I also pursue various interventions to eliminate challenges that keep away school-age children out of classrooms.

“Within the first six months of getting to the House, I gave out free UTME forms to 200 students desirous of higher education. Beneficiaries were spread across Ede North State Constituency, and support, which includes tutorials was facilitated to make sure they excel. Three years into my time in the House, no fewer than 500 students in Ede North have benefited from the free UTME scheme.

“And it didn’t stop there. Brilliant but financially incapable beneficiaries were supported to go to higher institutions of their choices. Today we have students in Federal Polytechnics, Ede, Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State Polytechnics, and Iree, among others, through a scholarship scheme wholly funded by me. Some of these students will be graduating in a few months.

“This intervention did not leave out those in the secondary schools. In 2020 when the Osun State Government reversed the single uniform policy, I took it upon myself to provide free school uniforms for students in Ede North State Constituency. This was done to ease off the pressure that the changes posed on parents and guardians, and as well, we ensured that no student stay away from school because of the inability of having a school uniform.

“A total of 1,500 uniforms were provided to students. This, in part, is why we have the lowest incidence of out-of-school children in our Constituency. So, I have worked to make it possible for constituents who desire to learn to do so, and I plan to do even more.
