Gunmen on Friday morning attacked the Mbieri Divisional headquarters situated in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.

This is the fifth Divisional Police headquarters gunmen had burnt since they renewed their hostilities in the state in the past one month.

An indigene of Mbieri living near the police divisional headquarters said that the attack was “frightening”.

The source said, “We didn’t sleep last night. They arrived around 3 am and the sounds of gunshots kept us awake till dawn. This is so scary.”

Another source told our correspondent that the hoodlums threw explosive devices at the police station.

He said, “The armed robbers bombed the police station but luckily it was not maximum destruction. The whole building was not affected. Part of the roof was affected.”
