Who is afraid of Senator Adeleke’s political sagacity? Barr Kamarudeen A. Ajisafe Writes

From the moment that the race for the ticket of PDP began and now, there has been a silent attempt to block the aspiration of one man– Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. And the disturbing thing here is that, this despicable act is coming right from inside the party, and even more, shocking, those you least expected.

Initially, it started with regurgitating the lies advanced by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2018 governorship poll, but as time goes on, his traducers grew bolder, and blame him for the party losing out to a heavily rigged progress. But that narrative failed to sell among party members, who remain undaunted in their supports for the former Osun West Senator.

Perhaps the incredible depth of supports that Senator Adeleke enjoys in Osun PDP propelled his detractors to pursue the ridiculous option of shutting him out the contest in January when aspirants appeared before a screening panel that was set up by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party. With outside help, they sought the disqualification of Senator Adeleke on petty and unreasonable ground, and when that also failed, they choose the blackmail, using an indigen of a neighbouring state to move around media houses and spread outright falsehoods.

These people have been in this despicable act for a while now. If you have listened to those opposed to Senator Adeleke in recent time, they will tell you he’s incapable of winning the general election for the PDP. They based their positions on an imaginary legal landmine, and in some cases, raised that his candidature will not be well accepted by the electorates.

But all of these are pure fallacy. The last two elections where Senator Adeleke was a candidate were a clear reference on his acceptance among Osun electorates.

Senator Adeleke won election into the Senate by winning nine out of available 10 local governments, and in the governorship poll, he won in the first ballot until the APC federal power violently manipulated the mandate through the devise of a ‘remote control’ as admitted by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In contrast, none of the five aspirants jostling the party’s ticket, have such standings among the electorates. This simply explains why they are agitated and restless about the possibility of Senator Adeleke picking the PDP ticket for the July 16 governorship election. Their fears is well rooted in the fact of Senator Adeleke’s indomitability and political sagacity.

They know very well that a contest with him will only bring about an outcome– a defeat for them– and they consider cutting corners as the only way out for them. That is why they are exploring different avenues to take him out of the race.

The latest of their plot is to use the court to achieve what they couldn’t get on the political field. Out of desperation, they forum shopping to hold the party by the jugular and make it impossible for it to have a candidate. If you are still in doubt, take a pause and review the activities those opposed to Senator Adeleke within Osun PDP.

Few weeks ago, the PDP was scheduled to hold a Congress to elect 3 ad-hoc delegates across the 332 wards in Osun state but this same people frustrated it and ensure it was postponed. And while members wait patiently for the exercise to hold at the rescheduled date, there were insinuations of a fresh move to get a court order to stop it. And again, it is this same people who think ruining PDP is the way to get at Senator Adeleke.

The problem here, is that they choose the wrong target. Outright lies, envy, malice, mischief and blackmail they have exhibited towards Senator Adeleke over time have only exposed them for who they are– enemy of progress. This reality is beginning to resonate well with party faithful, who are now beginning to give a serious thought to the insinuations that these people are actually working for the APC.

The question begging for answer from those hell-bent on dragging Osun PDP to the ditch just to get at Senator Adeleke is, what exactly are they afraid of? Most Osun PDP members know what they want and if they are saying “it is Senator Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke”, the reasonable thing to do is to let them make their choices. CONTINUE READING…
