The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Mr Mayokun Lawson Alade of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of Akure North and South Federal constituency bye-election.
Mayokun defeated the PDP candidate, Muyiwa Adu, with 1,812 votes.
According to unofficial results collated in the 23 wards of the two local government areas.
Alade polled 26,379 while Adu polled 24,201 votes.
Other contestants, Oluwawemimo Fadeke of the African Democratic Party (ADP) scored 465 votes, Joseph Ajayi of the All Peoples Party (APP) polled 125 votes, Olaniyi Olufemi of the National Redemption Movement (NRM) 76 votes , Opawole Tajudeen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) 68 votes while Olawale of the Accord Party (AP) polled 41 votes.
Announcing the results, the returning officer for the election, Professor Deji Ogunseni of the Federal University Of Technology Akure (FUTA) declared the APC candidate as the winner of the contest having scored the highest number of votes in the election.
The election held in two local governments of Akure North/Akure South was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere but low turnout.
The bye-election became necessary following the death of the lawmaker representing the constituency, Mr Adedayo Omolafe last year August. CONTINUE READING…
