Court remands man for attempted kidnapping in Oyo

Yaganku Magistrates ‘Court sitting in Ibadan on Friday ordered the remand of a 22-year-old, Muezz Abiola, at Abolongo Correctional Centre for attempted kidnapping.

 

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police charged Abiola, who resides at Abojupa area of Ilora in Oyo State, with two-charges of attempted kidnapping, and aiding and abetting.

 

 

The magistrate, Mrs O. A. Enilolobo, who did not take the plea of the defendant due to lack of jurisdiction, ordered his remand at the Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo town.

Enilolobo said that the defendant should be remanded pending the receipt of legal advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) where the case file had been sent to.

 

 

She, thereafter, adjourned the matter until April 4, for mention.

 

 

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Olusegun Adegboye, told the court that Abiola and others currently at large allegedly aided and abetted one another in kidnapping.

 

 

Adegboye alleged that Abiola on Jan .13, at about 7: 30 p.m. at Abojupa area in Oyo town of Oyo State , unlawfully kidnapped a 16-year- old girl ( name withheld) when she went to the defendant’s home.

He said that the defendant allegedly prevented the parents of the girl from having access to her since she was with him.

 

 

Adegboye said that the offences contravened Section 3 and is punishable under Sections 4 and 6 of the Oyo State Kidnapping (Prohibition) Law 2016.
