Osun Senator, Ajibola Basiru Releases List Of Accomplishments In 30 Months, Endorses Oyetola

Senator Ajibola Bashiru on monday gave his stewardship reports, since it is over 30 months he has been inaugurated as senator representative for Osun central senatorial districts.

 

The lawmaker, who is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity said his representation has talked with the pact it had with the people during the electioneering process in 2019.

 

During an interview with Newsmen on his Constituency office, in Osogbo, Osun state capital, speak by himself;

 

” I called it my pact and which we publicly advertised and use as a manifesto. It was published September 2018 shortly after I secured the endorsement and support of leadership of my party to carry the banner of the party and that is what we have said. I mean to do.”

 

Flanked by the chief press secretary to governor Gboyega Oyetola, Mr Ismael Omipidan and his senior legislative aide, Mr Bisi Babalola. The lawmaker gave his stewardship report at the constituency office in Osogbo, the state capital, speaking on the special intervention projects he has been able to attract to his constituency. Senator revealed his executed projects.

 

“In the year 2020, I have been able to facilitate project close to 1.6 billion to assist Osun Central Senatorial District. Almost all the projects except one, have been completed and the one that has not been completed is the Agricultural Entrepreneur Skills Development Center which is located in Awosulu, Osogbo West L. C. D. which land was given to us by Governor Oyetola and it’s already at roofing stage. So, we’re going to complete it in the couple of weeks.”

 

“All other projects that were facilitated in the 2020 appropriation were fully completed. This includes training, empowerment, construction of blocks of classroom and facilitation of road. As you can see the road from entry from Babakuya up to the Ansar-un-deen grammar school in Osogbo. We duly initiated and completed our projects. So that’s no case that any projects is abandoned. They were facilitated and that’s because we’re sure that we isolate ourselves from procurement process and from dabbling into the process of implementation of those projects.”

“In terms of community engagement and reach to our constituents, I would say that many people will not know whether I based in Abuja or a citizen residing here in Osogbo because I hardly find it comfortable to stayback from state within the period of 10 days.”

“During COVID-19 pandemic, it was challenging but then we made intervention which we did not publicly announced and I think Mr Toyin was always blaming me that I was blinking in the dark but I said it’s a matter of charity and humanitarian intervention that’s why it should not be publicized. But we can make it public now. We set up a center whereby we have phone numbers receiving calls for vulnerable constituent and we sent resources in terms of money to them, also distributed food to vulnerable in the society to ensure that as part of our process to elevate the challenge of COVID-19 including the production of face mask, water facilitation and sanitation.”

The project to market and also central central districts

“As I speak today, all our markets in Osun central enjoys the benefit of having solar lights to ensure that traders are able to trade long to the evening and then derive the benefit of not having to use their hard earn for that including the palace etcetera”

Empowerments

“In terms of empowerment also ensure that we gave people covid loan, about 50 constituents are able to get access to a minimum of N700,000 Covid loan intervention from the CBN. From the Minister of Trade and investment; we get about 283 constituents to get intervention in terms of grants.”

“We also facilitated employment for some of our constituents and as well, grants and scholarships to some students.”

“That is the approach overview and of course, we have also in the political realm worked towards collaborating with the government and the governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola to ensure delivery of qualitative governance in the state. And as a politician, we have also worked assiduously in stabilizing and ensuring cohesion and development of our party, APC in the state of Osun.”

“As the main role of national assembly member is to contribute to lawmaking in the country. Dr Ajibola MBA highlighted some of the legislations he has actively participated in, in their drafting and legislative processes.”

“As one of the leading senators in Nigeria. That is in the forefront of the making of very impactful legislations in Nigeria, specifically Petroleum Industry Act. I am a member of the Petroleum oxygen. I have participated actively in ensuring that the jinx of not having a law regulating the most important and vital sector of the Nigerian economy. I was made by democratic government, the extent law was made during military era in the sixties. I was also actively involved in the passage of the Company and other Alma-Ata Act as well as the Banks and other Financial Institutions Act. And of course recently concluded Electoral Act and the only member of the Southwest in the Senate that participated in the organization . Then, we thank God that, that is introducing innovations that will ensure free, fair and transparent election in Nigeria.”

As his party the All Progressives Congress in Osun state goes to the primary election on February 19, 2022 to elect the party’s flag bearer. The Osogbo born politician reiterated his choice of candidates, he said he is solidly behind governor Gboyega Oyetola, calling on party members who have different opinion to test their popularity at the party shadow election slated for february 19.

“And with my party, All Progressives Congress, the party that has seen it fit to give me the mandate to represent it in the general election and I’m also with the people of Osun central. The people of Osun central have elected me to represent them both in the National assembly and politically . From my own understanding and analysis of development of politics in the Osun here today. I believe our people and my people of Osun central will benefit immensely from continuous Governance of Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola.”

 

“My preference is to support Governor Oyetola to secure the mandate of our party in the in the February 19 primary and ultimately to work assiduously and ensure its success in July 16, 2022.”
