Kelechi Iheanacho shined as the Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated Egyptian Team in a 1 : 0 victory in the opener game 2021 AFCON hosted by Cameroon.

The Leicester City attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho scored in the 30th minute to give the Super Eagles the lead.

The impressive Eagles sustained the tempo and wasted several other chances to score.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal in the game in the 30th minute with an assist from Taiwo Awoniyi, to secure Nigeria’s 3 points in group D of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria missed various opportunities to have more goals, but the opportunities were missed.

Mohamed Salah couldn’t see light through the game. He was held down by the impressive defenders of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

With today’s victory, Nigeria broke Egypt’s unbeaten record. Pharaohs were unbeaten in their last 16 group matches at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Before now, Egypt’s last defeat in the group phase dates back to the 2004 tournament when they lost 2-1 against Algeria.

This is the ninth encounter between Nigeria and Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations. Nigeria hold the upper hand with four wins to Egypt’s two, although their last encounter before today’s game in 2010 went to the Pharaohs (3-1 in the group phase).

Nigeria are making their 19th appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations.
