Osun assembly summons health commissioner

The Osun State House of Assembly has invited the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Isamotu, to appear before it over the activities of health personnel across the State.

The need for the summon arose as a result of petition brought before the House by the Chairman of its Committee on Legislative Compliance and member representing Ede South State Constituency, Olaniran Akanfe Atidade.

Atidade had complained of the lackadaisical attitude of medical and health personnel who were stationed at the General Cottage Hospital, Ede.

In his complaint, the House Committee Chairman on Legislative Compliance, disclosed that he was briefed that few weeks ago, a female student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede had collapsed due to an unknown ailment and was immediately rushed to the General Cottage Hospital, Ede but due to the unavailability of a doctor on ground to attend to her, she later died.

He also revealed that he was briefed that a Councillor on the entourage of the Ede East LCDA chairman was seriously injured in an accident which resulted in him going into coma.

Atidade stated that the injured man was rushed to the same hospital but nobody was on ground to attend to the victim.

A visibly angry Atidade hinted that the man came back alive by divine intervention.

He noted that as a representative of his constituency, he decided to take the bull by the horn and intimate the House of the development.

He added that as a responsive government, the welfare and well being of of its citizens must not be taken with levity.
