Angry mother arrested for inflicting razor blade injury on 11-year-old boy over N3000 in Ogun

Police had in July described Wanjala’s arrest as a major breakthrough in an investigation into a spate of disturbing child disappearances in the East African country.

Police in Ogun State have arrested a woman, Shade Adelowo, for allegedly inflicting razor blade injury on the arm of an 11-year-old son of her neighbour over the sum of N3000 in the Agbado area of the state.

The 31-year-old suspect was arrested on Sunday, October 24, 2021, following a report at Agbado divisional headquarters of the police by the mother of the victim that the suspect inflicted a blade cut into her son after accusing him of stealing her N3000.

She explained further to the police that the mother of two whom her son usually stay with whenever she is not around accused the boy of stealing the N3000 from her purse and decided to punish him by inflicting the blade injury on his left arm.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirm this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta on Monday.

Oyeyemi said that upon the report, the DPO Agbado division CSP Kehinde Kuranga detailed his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested.

He said, “On interrogation, she (suspect) claimed that the victim who used to stay with her whenever his mother is not around stole #3000 from her purse and that she didn’t know what comes over her that made her inflict such grievous injuries on the boy.”

“She further claimed that she has been taken care of the boy and his twin brother for quite some time now and that what happened on that fateful day is devil’s handwork,” he added

Preliminary investigation revealed that the mother of the victim has been abandoned by her husband who left her with three children and vanished to thin air.

The woman has been engaging in a menial job to take care of the three children, and whenever she is going out for work, she will take the children to the suspect who happened to be her neighbour.
