Bandits Invade Sokoto Market, Kill Scores

There was chaos as unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits stormed the Goronyo market in the Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State’s Eastern Senatorial District, killing an undisclosed number of people.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday night when the armed men invaded the market in large numbers, shooting sporadically and gunned down many villagers who were engaged in their usual night transactions.

The level of causalities recorded during the attack could not be ascertained at press time as details still remain sketchy.

When contacted by newsmen, the Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said he was yet to receive an official briefing on the incident.

“I’ve not been officially briefed, I will get back to you soonest”, the command’s spokesman said in a text message.

VAM News recalls that the incident marks the third time in two weeks that the armed bandits attacked village markets in the state amid military operations in the area.

Less than two weeks ago, no fewer than 20 persons were killed when the assailants attacked the Ungwan Lalle market in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.
