A 30-year-old woman, Firdausi Bello, has poisoned her four-day-old stepson out of jealousy in Gainawa village, in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
A family member told DAILY POST that, the suspect, who is the first wife of the deceased baby’s father, allegedly put the insecticide into the mouth of the baby when she was put in her charge after the mother went to take a shower.
The suspect, however, raised the alarm after the baby started crying, prompting the mother and neighbors to rushed to the scene.
He said one of the neighbors perceived the odour of the insecticide, saying the baby girl was poison.
Spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST. He said the baby was rushed to Kura General Hospital where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
He said the incident happened on Wednesday, explaining that the suspect confessed to her crime. He added that she revealed she committed the crime out of jealousy because her husband married the mother of the baby, who is the daughter of her close friend.
