Ekiti fixes December 4 for LG elections

Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission, EKSIEC, has fixed the conduct of elections in the 16 Local Governments (LG) and 19 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs, in the state for December 4, 2021.

Chairman of the Commission, Justice Jide Aladejana (retd), announced this in a statement on Friday.

Aladejana, who released the notification dated September 3, for the conduct of the election, promised that the elections would be free fair credible and transparent.

According to a notice signed on Friday in Ado Ekiti by Aladejana, the election would take place on Saturday 4th December 2021 by 8am and 2 pm across the state.

He added that the campaign for the council poll will commence as from 3rd September 2021 and end on 2nd December 2021.

The EKSIEC boss noted that congresses for the election of councillorship and chairmanship candidates by political parties would be held on 25th September 2021 and 2nd October 2021 respectively.

Aladejana advised political parties willing to participate in the election to collect form EKSIEC 001 on behalf of their candidates at the headquarters of the commission.

”Pursuant to section 19 subsection 1 of Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission Law, No. 13, 2021.

“Notice is hereby given that the local Government Area and Local Council Development Area Election will take place between the hours of 8 am and 2 pm on Saturday 4th December 2021 in Ekiti State,” he said.

The tenure of the 177 councillors and 16 chairmen would lapse on December 19, having assumed office in December 19, 2019.
