Kwara: Gunmen Invade Hotel, Kill One, Abduct Another

No fewer than 10 unidentified gunmen in military uniform invaded one Zulu Abeje Hotel, Mandala via Alapa in Kwara State on Saturday killing one person.

It was gathered that another person was injured while the third person was abducted in an attack that occurred at about 2000hours on Saturday at the hotel on the outskirts of Ilorin, the state capital.

This was confirmed in a statement by the spokesman of the state police command, Mr Okasanmi Ajayi, in Ilorin on Sunday.

The spokesman said, “in an attempt to abduct the owner of the hotel, one Zulu (m), shots were fired by the invaders and one Aro Razaq (m), of Oloje area in Ilorin, was hit and he died at the front of the hotel.”

He said “the target of the kidnappers, who happens to be the owner of the hotel, escaped with injuries.”

Okasanmi said while escaping into the bush, the invaders abducted one Abdulhakeem Aminu of Anifowoshe area of Ilorin.

The state Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, immediately dispatched the command’s tactical units on receipt of the information and co-opted local hunters, vigilantes and OPC in the search and rescue operation.

The CP commiserated with the family of the dead victim and assured the people and families of the victims that no stone will be left unturned in the effort to rescue the abductee and arrest the culprits.

He solicited the cooperation of people by giving the police information that will aid the command in early arrest of the suspects and rescue of the victim.

The police commissioner also warned those planning to protest (tomorrow) Monday to shun the plan as adequate security measures have been put in place for the safety of the residents.
