The trial of Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, a.ka. Baba Ijesha, for alleged defilement will resume on September 27.
The embattled thespian’s case is before an Ikeja Special Offences Court in Lagos.
The matter, earlier scheduled to continue on Wednesday, was postponed due to the absence of Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo.
Justice Taiwo is attending a Judges’ Retreat, alongside other members of the Lagos State Judiciary.
The new trial date has been communicated to parties to the suit. Baba Ijesha, arraigned on June 24, faces six counts.
The prosecution led by Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi, the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has presented two witnesses.
The first was comedienne, Damilola Adekoya alias Princess, the foster mother of the minor.
The second prosecution witness is the girl. They testified at the last court proceedings on July 27.
Between 2013 and 2014, Baba Ijesha allegedly sexually abused the complainant, then 7 years old, by inserting his car keys into her vagina.
The defendant allegedly placed her on his laps, touched her in a sexual manner and rubbed his penis on her body.
“He also attempted to have sexual intercourse with the complainant by unbuckling his belt and unzipping his trousers after sexually assaulting her,” the DPP told the court.
The offences contravened the provisions of sections 135, 259, 262, 263 and 262 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
