Two more Bethel school students escape from kidnappers

Two more students of Bethel Baptist Secondary School in Chikun Local Council of Kaduna State have escaped from the kidnappers den, the police have said.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Mohammad Jalige, stated yesterday that the Kaduna Police Command got information from a credible source that two students of the school, believed to have escaped from their captors, were sighted, and hence reported to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Rijana.

According to Jalige, the DPO mobilised his men to escort the victims to their station.

The PPRO said during preliminary investigation, the police identified the two students as Emmanuel Mangwai (20) and Mathias Mangwai (16).

“The students stated that on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 about 1800hrs, they were tasked by their captors to go and fetch firewood from the nearby forest where they were held hostage. They however decided to take the opportunity of not been monitored and escaped to Rijana community along Kaduna–Abuja highway,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has named a newly-constructed office accommodation at the North East Headquarters of Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno state, after the late Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru.

Inaugurating the project, the COAS stated that the new facility would provide befitting offices to meet demands of the recent expansion and restructuring of OPHK.

He explained that the facility would provide a conducive environment for officers and administrative staff to perform their duties.

The COAS warm-heartedly disclosed that the complex was christened after the late COAS to honour him for his contribution and sacrifice towards the uplift of the Nigerian Army.
