Court Nullifies N1.4bn Corruption Charges Levelled By INEC Against Ex-NBA President, Paul Usoro

 

 

 

A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed the N1.4B Money Laundering criminal charges brought against a former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Mr Paul Usoro.

 

Usoro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, was discharged and aquitted from the 10-count charge on the ground that none of the ingredients of the alleged offence was established against him.

 

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission put the former NBA President on trial on the ground that he laundered N1.4B paid to his law firm by Akwa Ibom State government for series of legal services rendered to the State.

However, Justice Rilwan Aikawa upheld the no case submissions argued by a legal luminary, Chief Woke Olanipekun, SAN, and struck out the entire charges for being incompetent.

 

The judge agreed with Olanipekun that the EFCC failed in all fronts in linking Usoro with any of the charges as required by law.
