Breaking: Heavy security in Lagos over planned Yoruba nation rally

Security operatives have cordoned off the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos over a planned rally.

Scores of armed security men, including Police Officers, RRS operatives, Lagos State Task Force and Lagos State Neighborhood Security Watch (LNSC) were stationed at strategic points to prevent any rally.

Police water cannon, vans, black maria and armoured RRS tanks were also sighted at the venue of the proposed rally.

There is traffic girdlock in Ojota and surrounding areas over roadblocks mounted at the section leading to the park.

It was gathered a non-government organisation, Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF) had planned a peace rally for Friday.

But Lagos Police Command had warned the forum against holding any rally in the State.

The Lagos police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Thursday, citing security concerns and third wave of COVID-19.

VAM News recalls that the agitators held a rally at the park on July 3, 2021, despite repeated warnings by the police. One life was lost while scores of others were arrested and detained by the Command.
