There was a tension in Osogbo, the Osun state capital on Friday, over alarm that bandits had stormed a school in Ofatedo town of the state, to kidnap pupils.
The unconfirmed reports made several parents to rush out in mass to pick their children from schools.
The rumour evoked panic in the mind of Osun residents and people started calling their relatives that reside in Ofatedo town to know the actual situation in their area.
“Suspected bandits had pasted a notice on the wall of a private school in Ofatedo, indicates attempt to attack the school and kidnap pupils, Residents claimed.
After a while that the rumour has circulated around the state. The spokesperson of the Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, told Newsmen that the report is not true.
“It was a false alarm”
“Tactical teams had been deployed to the area since then. Residents told us that the person that raised the alarm later ran away. The state is safe”, Opalola said.
