Woman gets jail term for theft in Osun

An Osun State Magistrate court, Ile-Ife on Wednesday sentenced a 30-year-old woman, named Toyin Akinyemi to 18 months imprisonment for stealing jewellery, perfume and electronics.

Toyin pleaded guilty to the offence of burglary and stealing of the properties of one Abdul Hammed Toheeb.

The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi said on May 28, 2021, around 1:00 pm at Modomo area, Ile-Ife, Toyin broke into the house of one AbdulHammed Toheeb to steal one Hisense plasma TV valued at N72,000; one industrial machine cost N105,000; wristwatch valued at N70,000, a box of jewellery, valued N50,000, small collection perfume valued N4,000; a pair of sandals valued N15,000 and power bank valued N17,000.

Osanyintuyi noted that the offence contravenes sections 383, 390(9), 411 and 412 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

Magistrate Bose Idowu sentenced Toyin to 18 months imprisonment without an option of fine noting that it would serve as a deterrent to others who would want to engage in such crime.
