Ahead of the August 8th, 2026 gubernatorial election in Osun state, a total of 1,660 delegates—five from each of Osun State’s 332 wards—participated in the governorship primary election. The delegates were selected during ward congresses held across the state.
At the conclusion of the process, Bola Oyebamiji, former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, and , the two-term former commissioner for finance, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, emerged as the Osun State APC governorship candidate through consensus primary election held in Osogbo, the state capital.
His affirmation was arrived at the end of the governorship primary held on Saturday in Osogbo, Osun state Capital.
Announcing the affirmation, a former governorship aspirant in the party, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke said his affirmation followers the decision of the APC national working committee.
Adegoke also said that the other aspirants stepped down for Oyebamiji.
He said, “I Kunle Adegoke with the consent of all other aspirants move the motion that Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji be adopted aals the consensus candidate to contest in the 2026 governorship candidate. I so move.”
At the gathering, Senator Babajide Omoworare also seconded the motion moved by Kunle Rasheed Adegoke making Bola Oyebamiji the consensus governorship candidate of the APC.
Other aspirants who were present include; former deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Oralusi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Dotun Babayemi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh.
The Chairman of the Osun APC governorship primary election committee, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State later announced Bola Oyebamiji as the APC candidate.
In his acceptance speech, Oyebamiji enjoined all other party aspirants to work together with him for total victory at the general poll.
He further declared a one minute silence in honor of the late immediate past APC state chairman, Oba Famodun, and a former local government chairman, Hon. Abass, he was murdered during the local government leadership tussle in the state.
