“Osun deserves Muslim governor that will be just to the public resources in 2026” – MUPAF

THE Muslim Political Awareness Front (MUPAF) has advocated for a Muslim governor in Osun State come 2026.

The National Coordinator, Alhaji Lukmam Obembe submitted that 2026 governorship tickets across political parties in Osun State should be given to a Muslim, stated that there is no Muslim governor in the entire southern Nigeria as we speak, hence the need for Muslims to wake up and use our population to get back our lost political feat.

The national President said this during a stakeholders conference on saturday 3rd may, 2025 in Osogbo.

MUPAF is one of the leading Islamic movements that dominate the socio-political landscape in the last eight years of our existence across the southwest including Kwara State with remarkable contributions to the growth of the society.

Some critical steps resolved during the conference are;

1. It is no more news that there is no Muslim governor in the entire southern Nigeria as we speak, hence the need for Muslims to wake up and use our population to get back our lost political feat.

2. Governors in the affected states have failed to balance the sharing formula of the public wealth, appointments and employments despite the larger percentage of Muslims population in many affected states especially Osun where muslim takes up to 67% of the population. Further examples can also be found in Oyo, Lagos and Ogun states where Muslims population are enough to elect their governors among other elected political offices but the reverse is the case. Public assets should be shared according to the percentage of each community, doctrine and representative.

3. We call on all political parties to elect Muslim candidates in their upcoming party primaries. We are ready to throw our weight behind any political party that presents Muslim flag bearer in the forthcoming governorship election come 2026 in Osun State.

4. We are using this opportunity to remind the public about our recently concluded constituency tour, which cut across the nooks and crannies of Osun State where MUPAF state leadership engaged Muslim stakeholders in the state with the support of our senatorial leaders, constituency coordinators, local government coordinators, ward and unit political-dahwa warriors and the esteemed embers speak volume about our commitment and value.

5. However, the need to reemphasize the type of Muslim candidates present by political parties is important, hence MUPAF will screen all Muslim candidates for the Osun 2026 governorship election and support a true Muslim candidate and not a Muslim by name to gain our votes as usual.

6. A true Muslim must not be biased in sharing what Allah has put to his or her custody to supervise as a leader to among his people. The larger percentage of our population should be democratically have the larger share of the resources and positions but the reverse is the case in Osun State currently.

“Conclusively, it is now clear that MUPAF has no any preferred political party or favourite personality but we are ready to physically, spiritually, financially support and campaign for the emergence of any true Muslim candidate in all elective positions across the southwest including Kwara state where MUPAF is grounded, most especially in the 2026 governorship election in Osun State. We pray to Allah to spare our lives for the process of Islam beyond 2026. Ameen!”, Lukman Obembe
MUPAF National Coordinator said.
