JUST IN: Taraba communities urge lawmaker to address infrastructure challenges

Residents of Jauro Voto and Willow communities in Mayo Goi Ward, Jalingo LGA of Taraba State, have appealed to their representative at the National Assembly, Sadiq Abbas Tafida, to urgently address the critical infrastructure issues affecting them.

The call was made through a formal request submitted by the Rural Educational Improvement and Development (REID Nig) in collaboration with the Jauro Voto Wolowol Community Development Initiative (JWCDI).

A copy of the letter was made available to our reporter in Taraba on Monday.

In the lettter, the communities highlighted the need for a new transformer and solar-powered streetlights to alleviate persistent power outages and enhance security.

According to the letter which was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of REID Nig, Bello Bako, the existing transformer in the community has been overstretched and unable to meet the growing power demands of the area, resulting in frequent outages that disrupt daily activities.

Efforts to secure an additional transformer, they said, have been unsuccessful, leaving the community in a precarious situation.

The community leaders who also raised concerns over inadequate street lighting, which they say has created security vulnerabilities, explained that the absence of proper lighting has allowed criminal activities to thrive under the cover of darkness.

Installing solar-powered streetlights, they believe, would significantly reduce crime and foster a safer environment.

“The transformative impact of these interventions cannot be overstated,” the community leaders noted, adding that improved infrastructure would enhance residents’ quality of life and drive local development.”

The communities urged Tafida, who is the member representing Jalingo, Yorro, and Zing federal constituency, to prioritize their concerns and ensure that swift action is taken.
