Posted on October 5, 2024

News Update

THE Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) Osun State Command, led by Commandant Bello Wasiu Aderemi, On Friday visited Dr. Hon. Omoyele Isaac Adekunle, the Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps and Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Internal Security. The meeting aimed to discuss collaboration in combating crime in Osun State.

In his speech, “It avails me a great opportunity and of course I am highly delighted standing before you today to deliver this brief but precious speech.

“I tagged my speech precious because it comprises the assessment of the past examination of the present, and of course projection into the future of the ‘Amotekun/Vigilantes relationship (Synergy) since the establishment of Amotekun Corps in all the six south west states of Nigeria some years back.

“Going by the record, there has never been report of clashes of any kind whatsoever between Amotekun Corps and Vigilante Group since the inception of Amotekun in Osun State few years back compared to the purported reported cases of such rivalry in other neighboring states. The mutual cooperation and co-existence between us is a great evidence of our virtuous being in Osun State and also a testament to Osun being the safest state in Nigeria. I urge us all to continue to keep the flag flying and always resolve instantly and amicably any form of discrepancy, misunderstanding or disagreement.

Furthermore, having you as the Commander of the prestigious Osun Amotekun Corps is considered a round peg in a round hole and we affirm of your capability and competency based on your antecedent and in-dept knowledge on community policing and as an experienced retired Police Officer who has spent his active service years majorly on the internal security of the state which form the basis on which Amotekun Corps enactment bill was established across board.

“Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Osun State Command is particularly satisfied to have you as Osun Amotekun Commander because of our partnership and joint operations dated back to your active service years in the Nigeria Police Force, then through your appointment as the ‘Special Adviser to the governor on Internal Security’ and now as the ‘Osun Amotekun Corps Commander’.

Sir, we have no iota of doubt that the relationship will continue as expected and our hope is not also limited to mutual cooperation, we anticipate a more cordial and stronger relationship.

I wish you a peaceful and successful tenure in office sir.” Bello said.

Commander Omoyele welcomed the visit, commending the VGN for their initiative. He expressed the Amotekun Corps’ readiness to assist the group and emphasized the importance of cooperation in enhancing security. Omoyele highlighted the need for partnerships under the administration of Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke and stressed the significance of community involvement in maintaining peace.

The Corps Commander reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety of Osun State and looked forward to collaborative efforts with local organizations. He encouraged the VGN to prioritize state security and work closely with the Amotekun Corps.

The Deputy Commandant of Vigilante Group of Nigeria concluded the meeting with prayers for the successful tenure of Commander Omoyele.
