Nigeria will observe some notable public holidays in September 2024:

 

Eid-ul-Maulud: The federal government will declare September 16, 2024, as a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Maulud. This day marks the birth of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, observed during the month of Rabi’ al-Awwal in the Islamic calendar. Schools and businesses will close, allowing for community gatherings and educational events focused on the prophet’s teachings.

 

2. Edo State Governorship Election: The gubernatorial election in Edo State is set for September 21, 2024. To facilitate voter participation, Governor Godwin Obaseki will likely declare September 20, 2024, as a public holiday, providing government employees with time to travel to their voting locations. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reported that a significant number of new Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) have already been collected, indicating strong voter engagement.
