VOICE AIR MEDIA, News Update
Some caretaker chairmen of local government council areas in Osun State have started to resign.
The resignation, VAM learnt, is to enable them to adequately prepare for the February 22, 2024, local government election in the state.
Voice Air Media recalls that the chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, Hashim Abioye, announced February 22, 2025, as the date for the local government poll in the state.
In preparation for the poll, OSSIEC also announced its intention to recruit electoral and assistant electoral officers.
The first to resign is the chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Odo-Otin Local Government, Adewale Adeyinka.
Also, Lukman Afolabi, the caretaker chairman of Ede South local government area, has also resigned.
The duo resigned from their appointment on Wednesday.
Adeyinka, in his resignation letter dated July 17, 2024, stated that he resigned to pursue further opportunities to serve his people.
Afolabi, on his part, said he decided to respect the rule of law after the recent verdict of the Supreme Court on local government financial authority.
“Today, I stopped going to office because I have voluntarily resigned as Caretaker Chairman of Ede South Local Government to respect the rule of law,” he wrote.
Also, a source within government circles who craved anonymity confirmed the resignation of the council chairmen.
“Almost all council chairmen have resigned to prepare for the February 22, 2025, council polls,” the source said.
