Eid-eil-Adha: Security Operatives assure residents of safety in Osun

THE Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Umar Abba, has ordered effective and extensive deployment of policemen as well as all necessary logistics to strategic locations across the state.

This is as part of efforts by the Osun State Police Command to ensure a hitch free Eid-el-kabir celebrations.

CP Umar Abba made this known in a statement issued by the Command Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola in Osogbo on Thursday.

The CP, according to the statement, also issued a directive to all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers as well as Tactical Commanders, “charging them to ensure that no stone is left unturned in making sure that adequate security is provided in their various areas of jurisdiction”.

While stressing that maximum attention should be paid to critical public places and other points prone to public disturbance, the CP “assured members of the public that security had already been beefed up to ensure a crime-free Sallah celebration”.

Charging heads of formations to personally supervise their personnel deployed for the special assignment, CP Umar Abba warned them not to infringe on the rights of citizens.

“They are to ensure a 24/7-hourly surveillance of their respective area of operations. We are soliciting for the cooperation of all and sundry.

“The State Police Command is hereby urging citizens to be law abiding. Parents and guardians are enjoined to take good care of their wards and advise them to stay away from any act capable of causing public disorderliness.

“Members of the public are to report any suspicious movement by giving prompt and useful information to the Police in case of any infraction of the law through the following numbers 08039537995 and 08067788119.

“The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command wishes all Muslim faithfuls and visitors a joyous and peaceful celebration.”

In a similar report, the Corps Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, Brig. Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi has assured the residents of the state of maximum security of lives and properties during and after the 2024 Eid-eil-Adha celebration.

Adewinmbi disclosed this in a statement made available to the newsmen in Osogbo on Thursday, he said there was no call for alarm as the operatives of the corps were on red alert in all the local government of the state for the hitch-free Sallah celebration.

He also warned Amotekun operatives to stick to the Osun Amotekun Corp’s extant rules of engagement and guard against acts of unprofessionalism during the celebration.

The Corps Commander reassured residents and visitors of the state of adequate security and safety during and beyond the period of the celebration, as directed by His Excellency, Senator Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke.

According to him, the Osun Amotekun Command congratulates the people of the state, particularly the Muslims Ummah, as they join others in the country and beyond to mark this year’s Eid-eil-Adha celebrations.

“As directed by His Excellency Senator Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke for hitch-free sallah celebration in the state, I have directed Area Commanders, Local Government Commanders, and Operational Units of the command to deploy all operational and intelligence assets at their disposal following the directive of His Excellency Senator Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke the Osun State Governor, to effectively protect their areas of responsibilities and ensure smooth celebrations during and after Eid-el-Adha festivities.

“There is no call for alarm as the operatives of the corps were on red alert in all the local government in the state for the hitch-free Sallah celebration.

“I have also warned commanders and operational operatives to ensure that personnel under them stick to the Osun Amotekun Corps extant rules of engagement and guard against acts of unprofessionalism as they will be held vicariously liable for any lapses.

“I entreat all and sundry to celebrate responsibly and peacefully as well as call on Muslims Ummah to use the period to pray for the peace and progress of Osun State and Nigeria at large”, Adewinmbi said.

The Corps Commander urged residents to reawaken and genuinely express the true nature of Prophet Muhammed, which is exemplified by his love and selflessness.

Adewinmbi also called on residents to remain supportive, law-abiding, and vigilant, while promptly reporting acts of crime and criminality to the nearest Amotekun command and other security agencies.
