VAM news has learnt that Ebonyi State has recorded an 80 percent compliance to the sit-at-home order declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as banks and schools were shut down.
It was gathered that major streets in Abakaliki metropolis were deserted by shop owners to avoid being hurt and property looted by hoodlums.
Our correspondent who visited major places, especially the Margret Umahi International Market, gathered authoritatively that marketers deserted the area while only police officers were seen cordoning the market to avert any breakdown of law and order.
Also, transport depots located along afikpo road, fuel stations located along Enugu/Abakaliki expressway and many government and private institutions located at unity square were equally shut down.
However, a civil servant working at the internal revenue board who spoke to DAILY POST under anonymity said: “Nobody is in the office today, this is because we are observing sit-at-home.”
Another civil servant working at the Ebonyi State judiciary told DAILY POST that, “No court sitting today. The magistrates that came to court have all gone home, even me, I’m going home now.
“This sit-at-home they are talking about has affected everything, as you can see, many people are going home and they are trying to avoid being hurt.
“Court sitting can only take place tomorrow. I know by then, the magistrates can be in the office to attend to cases.”
Meanwhile, there was an alleged sporadic shooting by armed hoodlums at Ugwuachara community in the early hours of Monday, sparking panic among residents.
DSP Loveth Odah, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ebonyi State Police Command, said “we have been on patrol since morning to make sure that there is no breakdown of law and order.
“We can’t force people to come out from their houses. As I speak with you now, I’m at Ebebe junction and everything is calm here. I have not heard of any shooting but if any, we will brief you people later.”
