FUOYE VC, Professor Abayomi Fashina

Presenting a letter for the vote of confidence to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fashina, Comrade Ibrahim noted that Prof. Fashina has a heart for the students and called on other universities to emulate the FUOYE helmsman.

The student leader said, “Nigeria has about 255 higher institutions including Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Technologies. Having journeyed through some of these institutions, our methodological research has revealed that Federal and State Government continuously allocate funds to the education sector every year, without those funds having physical impact on the sector especially in terms of structures and facilities on the campuses.”

The visibility study has made us to observe that in some of our institutions, the students fight to secure venue during lecture and examination, because of acute shortage of classrooms, no equipment for practical, Lecturers struggle to get offices spaces, most structures are archaic and dilapidated and new ones are counterfeit. Yet much leadership of these institutions is acting under the pretense of prudency and psychopathy to siphon the fund allocated for educational growth.

“The circumnavigation of National Association of University Students into Federal University Oye Ekiti raised our hope and confidence that Nigeria still lives with leaders of integrity and aspiration that are ready to transform the education sector from mutiny to destiny. Our diligent attention was drawn to the rate of infrastructural and academic development of Federal University of OYE Ekiti under the leadership of Professor Abayomi Fashina which would serve as school of thought for other ininstitutions,” he said

Part of the statement read below; “The delegation led by NAUS Senate President Comr Ibrahim Mohammed Lawal had visited the University to have first-hand information of happenings in the university since the resumption of Professor Abayomi Fashina as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University and also conducted an on-site assessment of infrastructures in the university. NAUS is greatly impressed by the excellent corporate governance practices the university operates since the assumption of office of Professor Abayomi Fashina which has earned the trust and commendation of staff and students.”

“Let it be noted that all the staff unions in the university also pass a vote of confidence on the Vice-Chancellor and most importantly the Students Union Government gave an excellent testimonial of the performance of the Vice-Chancellor in the area of infrastructural development and prioritizing of student’s welfare. It is therefore expedient to commend the management of the university under the able leadership of Prof Abayomi Fashina for turning the university around within a very short period and operating a very transparent leadership, involving staff unions and students unions in the critical decision-making process of the university. Federal University Oye Ekiti is arguably one of the fastest-growing public universities in Nigeria today given the consistency of leadership and the vision of the current management team of the university.”

“NAUS will continue to cooperate with the university and its leadership to achieve its corporate and academic objectives. We have witnessed unprecedented revolution in the management of the university. All the stakeholders in the university feel involved and carried along and the students which are the most critical stakeholder in the university gave unanimous approval of the great work the Vice-Chancellor is doing in the university. It is therefore imperative to call on all other Vice-Chancellor of Federal Universities in Nigeria to adopt the management model of Prof Abayomi Sunday Fashina in repositioning their universities and improving the welfare of students as we believe this will directly impact scholarship and research.”

We, therefore, call on all stakeholders in the university to continue to support the management of the university towards its plan to reposition the university in academics, infrastructures, and research.”
