FG Suspends Evaluation, Accreditation Of Degrees From Benin Republic

The review and validation of degree credentials from Togo and the Benin Republic has been put on hold by the federal government of Nigeria.

Augustina Obilor-Duru, the Federal Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, issued a statement on Tuesday, January 2, announcing this development.

With the intention of obtaining graduate job prospects for which they are unqualified, “some Nigerians deploy nefarious means and unconscionable methods to get a degree,” the government bemoaned in the statement.

The statement added that the suspension would remain in place pending the outcome of an investigation involving the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Education of Nigeria and the two countries, as well as the Department of State Security Services (DSS), and the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC).
