Gunmen reportedly launched an attack on the Adamawa State Police Headquarters in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area, causing panic among Yola residents in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to report, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, acknowledged the attack but assured that the situation was under control.
Nguroje mentioned that while the attack was repelled, the identities of the attackers remained unknown.
“The attack was repelled, but the identities of those behind it was unknown.”
A source cited by the newspaper alleged that the assailants were military personnel seeking revenge for the alleged killing of a soldier by the police.
However, the newspaper couldn’t independently verify this claim.
Meanwhile, the police stated ongoing investigations to determine the motive and perpetrators of the attack.
Recall that a confrontation occurred last Friday between officials of the EFCC and Nigerian Air Force personnel at the Kaduna Zonal Command of the anti-graft agency.
The NAF personnel attempted to free their colleagues, previously apprehended by EFCC operatives for attempting to release fraud suspects forcibly.
Following credible intelligence, the EFCC arrested five suspects involved in alleged internet-related fraud at an eatery in the Barnawa area of the state.
Among those apprehended were Favour Itung, Rachael Ande, Zuleiman Haruna, Abubakar Ismaila, and Solomon Olobatoke.
During this operation, six military personnel, along with two students from the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology, tried to release the arrested suspects but were themselves subdued and detained by the EFCC due to the security breach.
The detained intruders included four Air Force personnel – Lawal Abdullahi, Chukwuma Christian, Alfa Suleiman, and Emmanuel Ekwozor – along with two students, Chidera Anuba and Joseph Tokula.
The EFCC revealed that discussions between their leadership and the NAF were initiated for the resolution of the matter.
However, tensions escalated on November 17, 2023, when some NAF officers conducted a forceful attempt to release their detained colleagues from the Kaduna Command.
