Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo has insisted that the best way to strengthen and entrench democracy in the country is for elected leaders at all levels to deliver good governance by meeting and satisfying the needs of the people.
The former President therefore asked the government at all levels in Nigeria to be loyal to the people and recommit to good governance.
Obasanjo spoke while he played host to Osun governor, Ademola Adeleke at his Abeokuta, Ogun State Hilltop home.
“What is my advice to leaders? Well, let them serve the people. Let them ensure governance. That is the way to make democracy strong”, the former leader was quoted as saying during the meeting in a statement by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the spokesperson to the Osun State Governor.
The elder statesman was also quoted as commending Osun governor over his development strides in the state while declaring that leaders have obligations to deliver democratic dividends to the people.
Responding to an invitation to commission projects in Osun state, the former Head of State who accepted the invitation also tasked aides of leaders to be loyal to their bosses for them to perform.
According to the Otta farmer, leaders need a cohesive team to perform and the aides must demonstrate absolute loyalty to their leaders for successful governance.
