Is PDP Ready For Osun 2022 Guber Election? By Oluwaseyi Adeniyi

Few days ago, I was opportuned to share a table with some elders in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, who probably qualified to be my father – They are professors in their chosen fields.

As a journalist who is always inquisitive and make good use of any available opportunity to learn, i put a question on the table on how old people played politics and still remained relevant, fortunately, the professor of history took it up and started sharing his past experiences in politics.

He was able to further disclose to me how the likes of Baba Awolowo, Chief Bola Ige and a host of others used to play the game and how the followers wholeheartedly accept decisions of these leaders – Even when some of the decisions at times weren’t in consonance with the followers’ position or expectation.

In politics, leaders lead while followers follow with some levels of checks and balances from both cadres, but not by way of insubordination or flagrant abuse of position. One will want to ask, what is wrong with the leadership cadre of Osun PDP?

Few days ago, the PDP in Osun state conducted its primaries (though some members registered their displeasure as they did theirs in another venue). Though, the national leadership of the party said the one they recognised was the primary held at the Osogbo city stadium where Senator Ademola N. Jackson Adeleke emerged the winner.

Am aware that a state high court sitting in Ijebu-jesa through an Order of Mandatory Interim Injunction has nullified all actions taken in flagrant disobedience to the judgement of 22nd November 2021, which recognized the Ward Executive Officers who produced delegates for the primaries.

The court held that the delegates that voted for Babayemi, did so in compliance with the court judgement of 22nd November, 2021 and Order of Mandatory Interim Injunction of 3rd March, 2022, affirming the 215 Wards Executive Officers elected then as the authentic and authorized Ward Executive Officers permitted to vote as delegates at the party governorship primaries.

Yesterday, some aggrieved members of the leading opposition PDP in Osun staged a walk against the choice of Kola Adewusi as a running mate to Sen. Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke in the forthcoming July 16th governorship election in the state, some even went to the extent of digging deep into his past during the protest, that he was a monumental failure during his years as local government chairman.

Surprisingly, this was coming from PDP members who by now ought to have started reaching out to the public on how to get good numbers of vote for their candidate, rather, they are busy badmouthing their own candidate and his deputy. This has call for a major concern among the citizens and matter arising…

Are these people really understand why they are in politics? Do they understand the danger of denigrating their men? Is the party lacks discipline? Are these people aware that they are facing incumbent government?
