Nigeria @66: A Message of Hope and Restoration – Hon. Tajudeen Salami

Posted on October 1, 2026

My Dear Good People of Oyo State,

Today, as our beloved nation marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, we join millions of Nigerians across the globe to reflect on our journey as a sovereign nation. October 1st is not merely a date on the calendar; it is a profound symbol of our shared history, our collective resilience, and our enduring faith in a brighter tomorrow.

As we wave our green-and-white flag today, we pay homage to the founding fathers whose vision and sacrifices paved the way for our freedom. Yet, even as we celebrate 66 years of nationhood, we cannot ignore the quiet reality that echoes in the homes, markets, and streets across our 33 local government areas. For far too many sons and daughters of Oyo State, the promise of independence remains an unfulfilled dream.

Our pacesetter state—rich in cultural heritage, blessed with fertile land, and powered by some of the most industrious minds in Africa—stands at a critical crossroads. The challenges we face, from struggling local economies and infrastructural deficits to gaps in quality healthcare and education, are real and pressing. But I stand before you today not to dwell on past shortcomings, but to point us toward a path of genuine transformation.

Under the banner of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), I present a clear and uncompromising commitment to you: we are here to fix Oyo State and make it better for everyone.

Fixing Oyo State requires more than grand political rhetoric; it demands vision, integrity, and decisive action. Our state deserves a government that works for every citizen, regardless of status or background.

Economic Revitalization & Job Creation: We will breathe new life into our local economies by empowering small business owners, traders, and artisans. Oyo State will become a thriving hub for sustainable commerce, innovation, and private enterprise.
Agricultural

Excellence: We will transform our vast arable land into modern food hubs, equipping our farmers with the resources, technology, and access to markets needed to guarantee food security and generate wealth across rural communities.

World-Class Infrastructure: From the urban center of Ibadan to the vast agricultural stretches of Ibarapa, Oke-Ogun, Ogbomoso, and Oyo town, we will build durable roads, expand access to clean water, and ensure reliable public utilities that drive economic growth.

Empowering the Youth & Women: Our young people are our greatest strength. We will invest heavily in quality education, technical skills acquisition, digital innovation, and sports development so that our youth can compete globally.
Healthcare & Social Welfare: Access to functional, affordable primary healthcare will become a basic right for every family, ensuring that no mother or child is left behind.

The journey to restore the Pacesetter State to its rightful position of pride begins with a single step: choosing a new direction. A better Oyo State is not an impossible dream—it is within our reach if we stand united in purpose.

On this 66th Independence Day, let us renew our faith in our state and nation. Together, under APGA, we will repair what is broken, rebuild our institutions, and create a prosperous future for our children.

Happy 66th Independence Anniversary to Nigeria, and Happy Independence Day to the great people of Oyo State!

Long live Oyo State!

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Hon. Tajudeen Salami
