Independence Day: Embrace National Unity and Responsible Digital Media – OOPA

Posted on October 1, 2026

As Nigeria celebrates 66 years of independence, the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) extends warm greetings to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the governors, political and traditional leaders, professionals, young Nigerians and citizens across the country.

This Independence anniversary is not only a moment to celebrate our journey as a nation, but also an opportunity to reflect on the Nigeria we are building and the responsibility that rests on all of us.

A nation thrives when it invests in its young people, listens to their aspirations and creates opportunities for them to contribute meaningfully to national development.

OOPA therefore recognises and appreciates the contributions of past and present leaders who have served Nigeria and whose efforts have strengthened the country’s place on the African continent and in the comity of nations.

As we look towards the future, it is time to deliberately refine, empower and encourage a new generation of Nigerians who are lifting the spirit of the nation, creating solutions, building businesses, advancing knowledge and giving their best to ensure that Nigeria takes its rightful place in the world.

As the Fourth Estate continues to carry the responsibility of informing the public and shaping conversations, OOPA remains committed to promoting responsible journalism, combating fake news and misinformation, protecting the credibility of digital media and using our platforms to project the positive stories and possibilities that exist within Nigeria.

Over the years, Nigeria has witnessed different administrations and transitions in leadership. While acknowledging the challenges that have accompanied our national journey, we also recognise the developmental strides that have contributed to Nigeria’s continued relevance as a major nation in Africa.

On this Independence anniversary, we therefore pray and hope for a Nigeria where our national flag continues to fly in unity; where infrastructure and road networks receive sustained attention; where those who have studied and acquired skills can find meaningful opportunities to work; where those who have contributed to the nation’s growth are valued; and where young Nigerians can pursue their dreams without being compelled to seek opportunities elsewhere.

We envision a Nigeria where our passport and national identity command dignity and respect; where every citizen has a voice; where those who have travelled abroad in search of greener pastures can confidently return to contribute to a stronger homeland; where our commonwealth is managed with fairness and accountability; and where Nigerians, regardless of their background, can wake up each day with renewed confidence in their country.

Our message is simple but profound:

Everyone who loves Nigeria should begin to speak about her prosperity, believe in her possibilities and contribute to building the nation we desire.

The Nigeria of our dreams will not be built by government alone. It will require the collective responsibility of citizens, leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, young people, the media and every stakeholder who believes in the future of this great country.

On this Independence Day, OOPA reaffirms its commitment to responsible digital journalism, national development, credible information and a Nigeria whose story is defined not only by its challenges, but also by its people, resilience, creativity and enormous potential.

God bless Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA).

God bless Osun State and its leaders.

God bless the South-West region.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Signed:

Comrade Abioye Tosin Lawrence
Chairman, Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA)

Babatunde Raji
Public Relations Officer, OOPA
