Falconets Knocked Out By Colombia After Late Quarter-Final Goal
Nigeria’s Falconets have been knocked out of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after suffering a late 0–1 defeat to Colombia in the quarter-final on Sunday.
The match appeared to be heading into extra time after both teams failed to score during the 90 minutes.
However, Colombia found the breakthrough in the second minute of stoppage time when Valerin Loboa fired home to give her side a dramatic victory.
Nigeria had several chances throughout the match, with Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwocha, Kafayat Mafisere, Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei and Onyedikachi Ekezie all attempting to break the deadlock.
The Falconets were reduced to 10 players in the 77th minute after Kafayat Mafisere was sent off, with VAR confirming the red card.
Despite being a player down, Nigeria continued to push forward and created late chances, but could not find an equaliser before the final whistle.
Colombia will now face either DPR Korea or Canada in the semi-final.
